I’ve been going a bit crazy on Pinterest lately. There are just so many ideas around food. One of the more recent ideas I have noticed from bloggers in the United States is this idea of salad in a jar. They look pretty (so you are more likely to eat your vegies!), the jars are reusable, BPA free, they keep it all fresh plus save us time in our busy lives.
I just tried it yesterday as part of my “Sunday - get ready for the week ahead foodie day”. In case you haven’t seen them I thought I would share the idea with you…
Step 1: Chop up your salad vegies. The idea is you prepare for a few days ahead to save time. I decided to start with a simple one (balsamic vinegar, lettuce, spinach, snow peas, carrots, feta cheese, sprouts and lentils).
Step 2: Layer the vegies along with any salad dressings in a jar that has a sealable lid. The fancy Maison Jars that are all the rage lately are great. I tried it with just an old coffee jar.
Step 3: Store them in the fridge and pull out a new one for work or school each day! - too easy
Hint: Put your wetter ingredients (like tomatoes) and dressings towards the bottom to avoid making the others all wet and soggy.
