A deficiency is a lack of certain nutrients such as vitamins and minerals in your body. This can be diagnosed by a blood test organised by your GP.
A nutritional deficiency may be due to a number reasons including:
- you are not eating enough of a certain nutrient in your diet
- you have greater requirements for certain nutrients due to a medical condition
- medications may be interacting with your regular absorption of nutrients
A Dietitian can help with preventing and managing deficiencies by working with you to ensure your diet is balanced. Where necessary, they can advise you on the use of supplements to correct a deficiency.
